The Pennsylvania State Police Troop N – Hazleton Criminal Investigation Unit is investigating a Theft/Fraud/Forgery that occurred on Airport Road, Hazle Township, Luzerne County between May 23, 2019 – June 6, 2019.
Actor(s) removed several bank checks from the Victim’s roadside mailbox. The Actor(s) proceeded to “wash” the checks, altering the amount and payee. The Actor(s) then deposited the checks at two different local ATMs and immediately withdrew the funds.
Two of the checks were successfully withdrawn in the amount of $7,231.51. A third check was attempted to be cashed but was denied due to a stop payment, in the amount of $1,900.
ATM video surveillance images were obtained from:
1. PNC Bank, 200 W. Broad Street, Hazleton PA, on May 27, 2019, at 8:52 PM
2. Wells Fargo Bank, 7 N. Kennedy Drive, McAdoo PA, on May 28, 2019, at 8:33 PM
Both ATMs captured images of the same individual making the deposit/withdrawal.
The third check ($1900) that was attempted to be cashed was done at an M&T Bank ATM located at 303 Main Street, Fort Lee, NJ, on June 6, 2019, at 5:10 PM. The image obtained from this transaction did not provide any leads.
