The Pennsylvania State Police, Troop B, Washington, continue their investigation of Theft by Unlawful Taking that occurred at the Bailey Mine, located in West Finley Township, Washington County.
During the month of July 2018, an Internal Audit began involving Consol Energy and Soles Electric Company out of Fairmont, West Virginia. An anonymous call was made to Consol Energy regarding unethical business practices by Soles Electric, as it was related that they had been paying an employee whom was being paid under the table via cruises, hunting trips, etc. The audit yielded false keeping of bank records. In addition to the audit, it was also discovered that mine equipment was missing from Bailey Mine Prep Plant, West Finley Township, which is owned by Consol Energy. Multiple thermal dryer motors were discovered to be missing from the Prep Plant valued at $400,000; however, more equipment was missing but could not be accounted for. The employee that was allegedly paid under-the-table via Soles Electric, was the Plant General Maintenance Supervisor who has since quit. There are multiple witnesses that place the motors on Soles Electric’s trucks for transportation from Bailey Mine to the Fairmont, West Virginia, location: however, Soles Electric denies any involvement. The motors have not been located during the Internal Audit stemming from July 2018 through October 2018.
