The Hilltown Township Police Department responded to the Walmart at 1515 Bethlehem Pike, Hatfield, Bucks County on 12/19/2021 for a report of a “Quick Change Scam” that occurred on 12/18/2021 at approximately 2100 hours.
Investigation revealed that the two pictured black males operated the store’s scooters, and each conducted a transaction at separate registers manned by youthful cashiers.
They each purchased items under $1.00 but produced $100 bills to pay for the items.
The suspects engaged in small talk with the cashiers while they were making change for the $100 bills. The suspects then asked the cashiers to exchange additional $100 bills for smaller bills but insisted the money be laid out on the counter.
More distraction techniques were employed by the suspects to the extent that the cashiers became so confused that they ended up giving the males over $3500 in total.
The suspects appear to be part of an organized ring and have hit multiple stores in at least four states, including PA, NY, SC, and NH.
Several vehicle descriptions were provided by various agencies, including a 2019-2021 white Toyota Rav 4 with unknown PA registration, a gray Kia Sportage with GA registration, and a black, newer model, large SUV.
Anyone with information on the identity of the suspects is asked to anonymously contact the Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers Toll Free at 1-800-4PA-TIPS (8477) or online at https://www.p3tips.com/tipform.aspx?ID=107
